Each year, the LMSC Directors honor our top travel team
coaches and one intramural coach for outstanding
contribution to the program and overall success in
adhering to the club philosophy of "providing each child
with a fun filled experience in a soccer environment."
Our Boys Travel Team Coach Of The Year Award
goes to Art Corrado, head coach for the Under 10
Lightning. Art has been coaching in our program for
about 13 years now. He first started coaching
intramurals with his oldest son Matt who later played at
Lower Merion High School and is now in college. Art
then moved down to help coach his second son Chris
who is now playing high school soccer. Art then went
back to the Intramural Program to coach his youngest
son Justin. The past two years Art has been head coach
for the Lightning.
This past season, the Lightning captured the Delco
League Under 10 Division 4 championship. The team
got off to a slow start, dropping their first two games of
the season. They then went on a tear, finishing 9-2-1,
including a 2-1 win over Central Delaware in the semi
finals and a 2-0 win over T/E in the championship game.
The Lightning also went 5-0, winning the championship in
the Delco Columbus Day Tournament.
Art currently has the Lightning playing in an indoor
league. They recently tied Reading-Berks, a Division
One Delco League team.
For his many years of service, and his tremendous job
this fall with the Lightning, LMSC would like to honor Art
Corrado as our Coach Of The Year.
Our Girls Travel Team Coach Of The Year Award
goes to Will Haines, head coach for the Under 9 LMSC
Heartbreakers. Will had been coaching in our intramural
program for many years. This year, his daughter Jenny
moved on to the Travel Team Program where Will was
given the job as head coach for her team. When many
of Will’s former players in the Intramural Program
requested him as a coach again this fall, Will eagerly
volunteered to again coach them in intramurals, even
though his daughter would be playing travel. As if a travel
team and a team in the Protons Division wasn’t enough,
Will also found time to help coach his oldest daughter
Christina in the Cosmos Division.
Will’s Under 9 team, the Heartbreakers, had a great first
season of play, thanks mainly to Will’s enthusiastic,
upbeat approach to coaching. The Heartbreakers had a
great season, winning their division in the PAGS League.
Over the years, our club has received many compliments
about Will’s coaching. We at LMSC are very fortunate to
have him coaching. For all his work, we are happy to
honor him as 2000 Coach Of The Year.
Our Intramural Coach Of The Year Award for 2000
goes to Fred Robinson. Fred was VERY busy this
season, serving as head coach in the Microns Division
with his daughter Sarah, Division Commissioner and
head coach in the Seniors Division with son Lester and
head coach for the Under 13 girls travel team, the
Falcons, with his daughter Dana. During the winter, he is
also coaching his oldest daughter, Stephanie, at Rocket
Sports.
Fred has been a great asset to LMSC for almost ten
years now. He has earned his ‘E’ and ‘D’ level coaching
licenses and always seems to have a great time on a
soccer field. His love of the game and love of the boys
and girls he has worked with over the years has been
enormous. For all of his work this fall, and in the many
years before in both the Intramural Program and the
Travel Team Program, we would like to thank Fred and
honor him as LMSC Coach Of The Year for 2000.
