PROGRAM FORMATS
LITTLE ALL-STARS DIVISION
- Our youngest divisions will be led through a variety of fun activities that involve the use of a soccer ball. Players will be
challenged with fun games to help them learn to dribble a ball, stop a ball and kick a ball.
- Our staff will introduce them to playing in small sided games (4 vs. 4 with no goalie) when they think they are ready
to try their skills in a game.
- The primary emphasis of this program is to help the players learn to be comfortable with a soccer ball at their feet.
- Competitive games will be played in a manner that de-emphasizes winning and losing.
ATOMS, NEUTRONS AND PEE-WEES DIVISIONS
- The emphasis of our Youngest Age Divisions is on enjoyment of the game and basic skill development.
- Players meet once a week. They will be led through a 25-30 minute skills clinic. This will be followed by games of 4 vs. 4 on scaled down
fields to maximize player participation. Games will last approximately 30 minutes.
- A size 3 ball is used.
- These age groups use a "pickup soccer" format where players are randomly placed on different teams each week.
This is done in order to minimize the pressures of winning and losing, thereby allowing each child to enjoy the game
in a stress-free environment.
- Heading a ball and slide tackles are illegal in these age groups.
- Because of the small numbers of players on each team, we need to have a large number of coaches in each division. Over
90 percent of our coaches are parents of the players. Parents are asked to give consideration to volunteering to
coach. You do not need to have playing experience to be a coach. At LMSC, we set aside a large percentage of our budget
for coaching materials, coaching clinics, etc. We believe that the best way to have a successful program is to have
coaches who are enthusiastic and understand their roles and responsibilities.
