CANNIBALS REPEAT AS DELCO LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

November 20, 2005 - The Cannibals had another successful year in Delco League play, winning the top division for the third year in a row. The competition was very strong, it included the top eight teams from Pennsylvania, the top three teams from Delaware and a very strong team from Baltimore. The Cannibals defeated PA Classics from Lancaster 4 - 0 in the semifinals on goals by Alex Dubow, Ben Marks, Nick Tucci and Matthew Lindheim. In the championship game, the Cannibals defeated Montgomery Maniacs 1 - 0 as Marks hit a shot from 20 yards out that the goalie made a diving save on. Before the goalie could recover, Lindheim knocked in the rebound.

The Cannibals’ defense proved very strong all year as they allowed only five goals in 13 games. They ended the year with four straight shutouts, thanks to the excellent play of goalie Kevin Lawson and defenders Michael “The Savage” Discavage, Jason Shein, CD McGlynn, Alex Dubow and “The Gonzo Brothers,” Andrew and Danny Gonzalez, who recently moved in from Virginia.

The Cannibals scored 47 goals in their 13 games. A very strong midfield was able to constantly get the ball out of the defensive end of the field and into the offensive end, thanks to the efforts of Sean “Conan” O’Brien, Devin “Devo” McLaughlin, Gabe Boni, Mark Abi-Khattar. Brett Campbell used his size and strength during the season to be one of the leading scorers during the fall season.
