January 30, 2009 -
The LMSC Legacy U9 boy’s team travelled to Lancaster PA to compete in the annual EPYSA State Challenge Cup soccer tournament.
In bracket competition, Legacy squared off against regional travel clubs represented by the Panthers United Soccer Association, Olmstead Regional Soccer Club and Philadelphia Sports Club.
Legacy dominated its opponents both offensively and defensively and won all three bracket games by a decisive margin confidently advancing to the tournament championship round.
In the Cup Championship, Legacy faced a tough Arsenal Team from the Montgomery United Soccer Club. Arsenal jumped out to an early lead but Legacy battled back in a well played,
end-to-end, physical game. In a dramatic conclusion, Legacy had a 3-2 lead with one minute to play but Arsenal tied the game, 3-3 with forty seconds left in regulation.
Legacy kept its composure and continued to press offensively, scoring the wining goal with just 14 seconds remaining in the game taking the Challenge Cup Championship 4-3.
It was another well played tournament by the entire Legacy team and coach Mauricio Matusiak.
