The LMSC Lighning (U-15 Boys) competed in the very prestigious Region I Premier League this spring. The League is comprised of the
top 16 teams from Region I (Maine through West Virginia). The Lightning finished the regular season 6-1-0 to earn them a spot in
the semifinals. This is an important accomplishment since the top team in the league that does not win their state championship
earns a spot at Regionals in July. Regionals is a week long competition among the 15 state champions and the Region One champion
with the winner being crowned Region I champion and advancing to Nationals in late July.
The Lightning defeated Upper Freehold, New Jersey 2-1 in the seminfinals to put them in the championship against New England Football
Club (NEFC) from Massachuesettes. The championship game was a hard fought game with the score 0-0 at the end of regulation. NEFC
took the lead in overtime but the Lightning stepped it up a notch and tied it up.
The game went into penalty kicks with each team making their first six PK's. In the seventh round, NEFC again made their shot while
the Lightning shot high, giving NEFC the win and the Region One Premier League championship.
The Lightning can still advance to Regionals if NEFC wins the Mass. state championship. This would send Lightning to Regionals as
the Region One Premier League representative. Regionals are held in early July. Hopefully the Lightning will still be able to advance.
