PANTHERS (U-18A BOYS) CROWNED
JEFFERSON CUP CHAMPIONS IN RICHMOND

March 10, 2013 - Congratulations to the LMSC Panthers, our U-18 Boys team, on winning the very prestigious Jefferson Cup in Richmond, Virginia.

Game 1: Friday 8 March, 2013 marked the tournament opener for the Panthers. They played under the lights against Charlotte United FC 94. Unfortunately, the Panthers' ambition was not quite equaled by their first result. The scoring was opened by Sam Stein, as he chested down a cross from Bobby Kane and placed it just around the keeper. However, the Panthers' lead was not long-lived, as Charlotte soon bounced back with a counter-attack goal. Next came another Charlotte goal in the form of a free kick. The game ended 3-1 for Charlotte, as a Panthers full court press to end the game afforded United a third goal.

Game 2: Saturday 9 March, The Panthers performed much better and responded very positively indeed from their loss on Friday in their game on Saturday vs. TSF ACADEMY DIABLOS (U19) (NJ). The game resulted in a 3-0 victory for the Panthers. Chris Martin had two first half goals. The first came in the form of a rebound from a valiant effort by Musa Kamara in front of net. The second came as a one-time finish from a corner kick set-play. The lead was further extended by Joe Aidoo in the second half, as he pounded a header into the back of the net from a corner kick.

Game 3: Sunday 10 March, The Panthers' final game came early on Sunday morning, against FC Florida 94B. Two early goals, both from Chris Martin, gave the Panthers a quick two goal lead that would last until just before the final whistle. Chris's first goal came from a Steven Posner assist. After weaving through defenders, Steven released Chris right in front of net for a simple finish. Chris's second goal came in more glamorous fashion, as a through ball sent him through the middle with only the keeper to beat. He did so by flicking the ball over the keeper's outstretched hand. FC Florida scored a late goal after a physical scramble in the box, but the Panthers claimed victory with a final score of 2-1. This victory and some excellent saves from Brody Schofield over the weekend was enough to send the Panthers home as tournament champions.
