March 10, 2013 -
For the second year in a row, the LMSC Sabertooth Rats traveled to Annandale, Virginia and returned with a perfect 4-0 record and
the tournament championship. The team defeated four teams from four different states to win the tournament.
The Rats opened up with a tough opponent from Beachside, Connecticut. Beachside went up 1-0 five minutes into the game, but the Rats
struck for three goals to win 3-1. The second game was much easier as the Rats defeated Pennine United from Cleveland, Ohio. The
semifinal game was against F.C. Nova from Michigan. The Rats had a comfortable 3-0 lead, but got sloppy and allowed two goals in the
last five minutes of the game to win 3-2.
The championship game was against Arlington United from Virginia. Arlington defeated the South Jersey Barons in their semifinal match.
The game was very defensive as neither team managed good scoring opportunities in the first half. The second half was the same, very
defensive. Finally, with three minutes left in regulation, LMSC's Harrison Malone received an excellent cross from Julian Niggeman
and beat the Arlington goalie with a nice shot. The goal stood up to give the Rats an exciting 1-0 victory and the tournament
championship for the second year in a row.
